Alfred and Augusta Anna Dolge's Final Resting Place

Alfred and his beloved wife Augusta Anna Dolge's are buried in the highest spot of the Dolgeville Cemetery. Alfred was born in 1848 Germnay and died in 1922 in Milan, Italy. Augusta Anna was born in 1848 in Germany and died 1941 in Calfornia.

Alfred Dolge's Home in California

Alfred Dolge owned Fair Oaks Ranch and Vineyard in Lamanda, California in 1901. The photograph of his ranch was taken from "The Musical Age" conducted by Harry Edward Freund - April 4, 1901 Vol. XXXIII No. 9. Alfred belonged to the Southern California Fruit Exchange.

Alfred Dolge Mansion located on the Fulton County side of Dolgeville near the East Canada Creek. This Queen Anne Style mansion was built in 1893 and completed in 1895 for Alfred Dolge and his wife Anna Dolge.

There are 2 Dutch Reformed churches, and 9 schoolhouses and schools: 6 grist mills, 9 saw mills, 3 fulling mills, and 2 carding machines. The first settlements commenced about the year 1770, but the inhabitants were driven off during the Revolutionary war, and returned with the peace. The Post-Office is near the SE. corner, on the river-road, 14 miles E. of Herkimer Court-House. Population 1,777. This town was formerly in Montgomery County, and was attached to Herkimer in 1817, with Salisbury and Danube.

According to the 2006 Herkimer County Directory, the Town of Manheim has 3,171 inhabitants. Dolgeville is the only Village in the town with 2,166 inhabitants..

History of the Town of Manheim

The Town of Manheim was settled in 1755 by Jacob Timmerman and Johann Jost Snell, Henry Rhemensneider and Johannes Boyer settled on Glen's Purchase before the Revolution. The Town of formed on March 3, 1797, as part of Montgomery County and twenty years later annexed to Herkimer County.

Taken from the Gazetteer of 1824: MANHEIM, a Post-Township of Herkimer County, 11 miles ENE, of Herkimer, 69 NWN of Albany; bounded N. by Salisbury, E. by E. Canada creek, or the town of Oppenheim of Montgomery County, S. by the Mohawk river, W. by Fairfield and Herkimer, being about 6 square miles. - Except along the Mohawk , there are no inter vales, but the up land is of superior quality, and it probably yields as much wheat as any town of the same size in the County. Its situation is high, it is well watered, and healthy:- has no mountains, lakes or ponds, nor metals, yet discovered. The inhabitants are principally farmers, tho' with a competent number of mechanics, and there are 200 families principally of Dutch extract.
